About Indigo Dyeing

We create a dye bath by re-fermenting “sumi” (a raw material made by fermenting indigo leaves into a compost-like substance) using only lye made from hardwood ash and water, and dye the fabric using the traditional Japanese indigo dyeing method (Shō-ai-zome). Traditional Japanese indigo dyeing, which has been passed down continuously since ancient times, is characterized by its antibacterial, insect-repellent, and far-infrared properties; furthermore, when performed by skilled artisans, the fabric does not fade or bleed.

Excellent UV protection without any processing

Unlike machine-spun yarn, hand-spun yarn retains the texture of the raw wool. This is why it offers a UV protection rate of 85–95% or higher. Furthermore, because it is untreated, its UV-protective properties remain effective even after washing. The synergistic effect of the material and genuine indigo dyeing makes this garment a protective layer for your skin.
