The Studio

Kazetuti Moyou Senkousha is based in the city of Izu, Shizuoka, working in an environment embraced by rich mountains and clear water. The name “Kazetuti” means fudo — the land, climate, and character of a place. Rooted in the climate and geology of Izu, we make our work by drawing on the craft of dyeing.

Its formal name is Kazetuti Moyou Senkousha, but it is known affectionately as “Kazetuti.” Using traditional indigo techniques, we practice Japan's age-old indigo dyeing — hon-date shou-aizome — with a dye liquor made from sukumo, composted and fermented indigo leaves.
